April is Earth Month, an annual time of celebration and action for the good of the planet. If you’re looking for a way to make a difference this month, MWA has lots of opportunities! We adopted the section of PA Route 711 in front of our office in Melcroft. Each spring and fall, we clean up trash from Champion to Melcroft.
Roadside garbage is a major source of water pollution. That’s because trash can easily wash from the road into the creek, especially during heavy rain. Cleaning up trash keeps our creeks healthy and makes the neighborhood more beautiful at the same time!
Swimmable Waters Sampling Training (April 15 / April 22)
We sample popular swimming holes weekly for bacteria from May through September. Volunteers are a key part of this program!
Volunteers sign up for sampling routes each Wednesday. They drive to pre-assigned swimming holes around the watershed, take water samples at each one, and drop them off at our office by 3:00 pm. For each sampling run, volunteers are entered into a drawing to win outdoor gear from Patagonia! MWA provides all necessary equipment and training.
We’re holding two, one-hour training events on April 15 and April 22. Please attend one if you’re interested in helping out this summer. We hope to see you there!

Celebrate Trails Day ICV Cleanup (April 25)
Mountain Watershed Association (MWA) is celebrating Trails Day the best way we know how—by rolling up our sleeves and giving back! Join us for a trail cleanup at the Whites Bridge section of the Indian Creek Valley Trail and help us make a visible difference.
Non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided by Athletic Brewing!
