Rachel Mitchell

Americorps Conservation & Outreach Member

Hi, my name is Rachel and I am the Americorps Conservation and Outreach Member here at Mountain Watershed.

I live in Champion with my husband and two children, across from the house I grew up in, so I have been tied to this community for a long time. The Rustic Ridge deep mine actually goes under my house, but my interest in mining restoration started a long time ago when my parents took the time to show me the treatment systems being built along Indian Creek. I attended Penn State University and graduated with a degree in geoscience, after working for two years in a local watershed impacted by acid mine drainage.

After 5 years working in the geotechnical engineering field, I took some time off to raise my kids, and now I am spending the summer with the Mountain Watershed.  I enjoy running, hiking, skiing, cross country skiing, and fly fishing.  My favorite thing to do in the watershed is to take my toddlers hiking and see them fall in love with nature just like I did.
