Yough River Float Trip

July 19 @ 9:00 am 3:00 pm

The Yough River Float Trip is coming up on July 19! This event is a fundraiser for the Indian Creek Valley Trail, and it always sells out!

Per person – $50 for adults/$20 for kids 7 and under. Your fee includes a life jacket, a canoe or kayak, paddle, shuttle, tip for Hazelbakers’ staff, and an ice cream sandwich at the end of the day.

The Float Trip will benefit our ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the Indian Creek Valley Trail. We’re working hard to close trail gaps, repair washouts, and improve overall trail conditions.

*All people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult*

Trip details:

River Type: Class 1 (Easy): Moving current with small waves and few obstructions that are easily avoided. Low-risk.

Hazelbaker’s will drive us upstream to the put-in at the historic town of Dawson, PA. From there, we’ll paddle and float through the spectacular semi-gorge, a road-free section of the river before it flows downstream to Pittsburgh.

We’ll float 8 miles (about 3-4 hours of paddling) past islands filled with wildlife and ridges fluttering with birds, including bald eagles! Look into the water to see schools of small-mouth bass, crappie, walleye, perch, bluegill, and the occasional freshwater drum fish. Stop anywhere you’d like to eat a snack and relax.

There will be a few small ripples and the occasional splashy wave, so this Class 1 moving flat water is perfect for beginners.

Your trip ends just before the Layton Bridge, where you’ll pull up on shore, back at the Hazelbaker’s outpost. Dry off and grab an ice cream sandwich (provided by our wonderful board members)!

We truly hope to see you there! Grab your tickets before July 12!
