We’d like to officially introduce our first official Youghiogheny River Patrol Boat! Longtime MWA member (and volunteer Board of Directors member) Ken Gfroerer generously donated the funds to purchase this essential tool.
The new boat is a 14-foot Mini Snout — a hard deck, soft hull, self-bailing pontoon boat manufactured in the Youghiogheny River Watershed at Demaree Inflatable Boats in Friendsville, Maryland.
It is designed primarily as a rough water rescue boat. The hard deck provides a solid and secure working platform, and the soft hull (inflatable pontoons) allows for solid hits without damage or mission failure.
Our Youghiogheny Riverkeeper will use the boat for water sampling, river cleanups, and on-water patrolling. Prior to this, we had a Pyranha kayak and an orange canoe. Talk about an upgrade!
Right now the boat is in the shop for some maintenance before we officially launch on the Yough. We’ll see you on the water this summer!
