On January 20, MWA held a community meeting regarding a plan to build an unconventional gas well pad off of Jim Mountain Road in Mill Run, PA. About two dozen residents and community members joined to learn more about the proposal. While the developments surrounding the Shannon Compton Well Pad are concerning, it was great to share ideas about strategies to protect the Laurel Ridge.

For those who were unable to attend, here are a few key takeaways:
Update on Permitting
DEP issued two permits already (allowing drilling and earth moving). Additional approvals will likely still be required before drilling begins, such as for water management or air quality. Neither a water management plan nor an air quality permit application have been submitted at this point.
Protecting your Property
Nearby residents should strongly consider water testing by a state-certified lab ASAP. The operator should also offer testing to private water supplies within 2,500 feet before drilling begins. Let us know if you are unsure of your distance from the well pad, or use our interactive map.
For questions about sampling please reach out! MWA can assist in funding a community monitoring program for air, water, or both through the Direct Support Fund.
