A Celebration in the Gorge

More than 70 trail lovers attended the August 7 ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of the Gorge section of the Indian Creek Valley Trail in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. The Indian Creek Valley Trail stretches from State Route 31 in Jones Mills to the confluence of Indian Creek and the Youghiogheny River. The Gorge is a 4.3 mile section of trail providing a pathway through an area of exceptional natural diversity. Many unique species of plants and animals call this special place their home. Mountain Watershed Association, home of the Youghiogheny Riverkeeper, along with the hard-working commitment of the Indian Creek Valley Trail Committee, has labored over the past 4 years to correct the drainage issues and regrade the previously existing railroad bed into a trail that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Friends, donors, trail enthusiasts, and community members gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion. Several key individuals spoke at the ceremony, thanking those who helped to make this day possible. More than $170,000 was raised from foundations and donated by individuals to complete this phase. We are grateful to have such a supportive community.
Next step: crossing the Youghiogheny River.
