Keith Terney
Land Steward
Hi Everyone, I'm Keith! I'm came to the Mountain Watershed Association as a member of the AmeriCorps while also earning a degree in Environmental Science from Oregon State University, and now I am the official MWA Land Steward. I spent the first part of my career working in financial management for a consulting firm in the Washington, DC area. Looking ahead to the next chapter, I'm following my heart into the field of conservation. I'm excited to to be part of a motivated team who shares a similar passion and appreciation of the natural world!
A little about myself...I was born and raised in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland in College Park. While I lived in the suburbs and close to the city, I spent a lot of time at a family cabin exploring woods, mountains, and streams in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. This is where I established a stronger connection to nature and my love of pretty much any outdoor activity.
Since moving to Pennsylvania, where most of my family resides, I have enjoyed exploring the beauty of the Laurel Highlands landscape. Community service is how I have spent most of my free time lately, through participation in volunteer training programs including PA Forest Steward, Master Watershed Steward, and Master Naturalist. These programs have led to my involvement in various projects such as water monitoring of the Conemaugh River, expansion of a pollinator habitat along the West Penn Trail, establishment of an environmental club at an elementary school, and a lawn to meadow conversion on my family's property in Derry Township.
As a trail and field specialist with the MWA this summer, I'm looking forward to enhancing the Indian Creek Valley Trail and defending the Yough River Watershed!
