Summer AmeriCorps Member: Outreach & Education

Hello! I’m Carlee, the Environmental Educational and Outreach AmeriCorps Member at MWA! I was born and raised in the magnificent Laurel Highlands. A majority of my life has been spent tucked beneath the tree’s and anchored to the earth, running through my family's property. My most prominent childhood memories include picking wild blackberries, dodging jagger bushes, and drinking from the natural spring.

I have always loved being engulfed in nature, it fuels me, feeling at peace and home. The water has always held a special place in my heart. Either it be the roaring Yough, the crick near my house, or the closest swimming pool. I became a competitive swimmer at the age of five, and swam for over fifteen years, I hardly ever spent time away from the water.

I flourished in art and design while I attended Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. Graduating in 2023 with a double major in International Business and Graphic Design. During this time I had the opportunity to intern for local non-profit organizations and artists, helping me develop my interest in environmental advocacy, with my artistic influence through community outreach.

After graduation I knew that I needed to leave the city and return to the mountains. A place where some of my best memories live. My favorite hiking trail is only a drive away (Hemlock Trails at Laurel Hill State Park), my favorite coffee is on the way to work (Silver Horse Coffee), and the best raspberry cheesecake ice cream is served (Ligonier Creamery).
