Some TLC for the ICV Trail!

For the past several years, the Indian Creek Valley Trail from Champion to Jones Mills has been a little rough. This 1.7-mile section serves as a link between the ICVT and the Blair Brothers Trail in Forbes State Forest. The trail desperately needed to be resurfaced, had become wildly overgrown, and the stairs leading to Route 31 had become dangerous with age. Overall, this part of the trail didn’t meet our high standards for the rest of the trail, which should be safe and wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic, bicycles, wheelchairs, and cross-country skis.

In early October, we closed the trail for our contractor to start working on the project, with hopes that the trail would be ready by the beginning of November. We’re happy to announce that the resurfacing has been finished earlier than expected, and the trail is open again!

This project was made possible by trail donors, plus generous grants from the PA DCED Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program and the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County. The result is a safer, more accessible trail for visitors and locals looking for a relaxing way to enjoy the outdoors in the beautiful Indian Creek Valley.
