2025 Summer Newsletter

It’s tough to believe we’re halfway through the year 2025!

Uncertainty has marked the start of this year, yet our community has held strong to protect the watershed that unites us. We’ve faced emerging heartbreaks, such as MWA’s discovery of dangerous levels of lead in the beloved Blue Hole Creek. As we do when faced with such challenges, our team quickly responded by coordinating with members and partners to inform the public, investigate the cause, and rally for accountability.

At the same time, we believe it’s critical for our community to connect with the watershed we protect. Our team has been working to construct new hiking trails on our conserved properties as we expand recreational opportunities in the Laurel Highlands. Recently, I saw several families cooling off in a popular swimming hole off of a new section of the Indian Creek Valley Trail – I’m proud MWA made that possible.

Please take some time to read about our accomplishments, campaigns, and projects. Thank you for supporting our tireless efforts to serve the watershed we love, and all those downstream.

– Ashley Funk, MWA Executive Director
