After nearly 30 years working to defend the Youghiogheny River, Mountain Watershed Association has a brand new logo, designed by local artist and paddler Harris Wright! We’ve been in the design process for months, perfecting the logo to align with our core values. The result – a design we absolutely love!
The new artwork stays true to our roots and looks toward the future. You’ll see echoes of our previous logo – the river flowing through the mountains (based on the view of Sugarloaf Mountain from the #LaurelHighlands Highlands Hiking Trail near Ohiopyle), and the placement of the M and W, which reflect one another like hills rising over a lake. The colors signify our verdant land, clean water, and a golden sunset on a summer evening.
The heron is new! Inspired by a well-loved design from last year’s Yough Defense Party, we wanted to include this stately bird in our brand for good. The heron is one of our watershed’s most iconic birds, standing like a silent sentinel, guarding our rivers, streams and lakes. In the design, the heron, the river, and the mountains flow into each other, interconnected as they are in the real world.
Huge thanks to Harris for bringing our vision to life! Keep an eye out this fall for some awesome new merch designs featuring our awesome new logo!
