We are excited to welcome a second Community Organizer to our team, Tyler Cannon. Tyler grew up in southern West Virginia and studied horticulture, geography, and other subjects at West Virginia University. He received his Regents Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University. Tyler enjoys climbing mountains with his dog Molly Moocher, driving long distances, and keeping a garden.
Tyler brings a great amount of experience having served in many roles associated with a campaign. At the Highlander Center, he did policy research regarding renewable energy and energy efficiency policy. At the WVU Food Justice Lab, he organized and facilitated county-wide food system planning sessions. Tyler has also served in support roles for direct action work focusing on Mountaintop Removal.
He is excited to be joining MWA’s team for a number of reasons. Tyler recognizes the need for another organizer to help pull the weight of protecting the Youghiogheny. He said, “It is an organization that listens to and supports its members. It is also a place where my experiences in food systems & agriculture, renewable energy, and rural organizing could all serve to benefit my work.”
Be sure to stop by the office and welcome Tyler to MWA.
