This position is offered through the Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corporation and is a 300 hour temporary position ending August 12, 2016. Position will be housed at the Mountain Watershed Association Inc. office in Melcroft PA.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with biological and chemical water quality monitoring.
- Conduct routine maintenance activities at abandoned mine drainage treatment systems.
- Participate in outreach and educational activities throughout the Youghiogheny River watershed, including the development of educational programs and attending community events and festivals.
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, or related field or working towards a degree. Course work in fields of ecology, biology, environmental disturbances, or related topics
- Field experience, including physical, chemical, and biological water quality monitoring
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and independent worker
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel when required
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a willingness to develop additional skills as needed.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Compensation:
This position is an unpaid position; however, upon completion of 300 hours of service the successful candidate will earn, a post service education award of $1,212.44 will be awarded when canidate meets all the terms of their agreement with Pennsylvania Mountain Service Corps.
