Mariner East Landowners Summit Recap

The Mountain Watershed Association, along with the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club, held the Mariner East Landowners Summit last Saturday, April 2nd, in Export, PA. Approximately 30 landowners and concerned citizens attended the event with presentations from Matt Walker and Alex Bomstein of Clean Air Council, Karen Feridun of Berks Gas Truth and Stephanie Novak from MWA presented at the summit.

Topics discussed included pipeline impacts and the use of GIS mapping, legal rights issues including Sunoco’s use of eminent domain, ways to engage local communities and potential next steps for attendees to continue advocating for landowners’ rights. At the conclusion of the event, all attendees were provided with informational packets including sample community resolutions, petitions, flyers, and other materials intended to increase capacity building for this extremely critical issue.

Events like this are a crucial first step in allowing concerned citizens to become better connected, and in turn, giving them greater capacity to reach out to others in their communities who may not be aware of the present dangers surrounding pipeline development in their neighborhoods.
