LCT Withdraws Rustic Ridge Deep Mine Application

We have good news this morning!  LCT has withdrawn the Rustic Ridge #1 underground coal mine application for the Donegal/Saltlick & Champion Creek areas.

While LCT will now have to re-apply, we know they intend to do so, so this is a temporary reprieve. It does, however, give us time to continue to gather information on the proposal and the impacts it would have on our community. When the new application is submitted, we will acquire a copy of it and begin our review to see what changes, if any, have been made to the proposed boundary and surrounding area.

When LCT resubmits the application, they will be required to republish the public notice for four weeks and allow for another thirty day public comment period.

Please stay tuned for additional activities and announcements. If you have not made a donation to MWA for this work, we would appreciate any contribution to defer the cost of reviewing and commenting on the permit application for this proposed deep mine. We are using consultants to analyze the impacts to the streams and downstream properties as well as properties in the subsidence areas and within the proposed footprint/boundary.

Many thanks to all of you who faithfully wrote letters to DEP and other officials in opposition to this proposed coal mine. We are likely to need your help in the near future so we will keep you posted.

If you have any questions or would like to know what you can do to help protect our beautiful mountain community, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We have large maps of the area as well as information regarding water supplies.
