Want to work in the beautiful Laurel Highlands this summer? We are currently seeking a Summer Field Intern for May through August 2014. Duties include water sampling in the Indian Creek and Yough River watersheds, operations and maintenance of our passive mine drainage treatment systems, and community outreach.
This position is offered from May through August 2014.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct biological and chemical water quality monitoring
- Conduct routine maintenance activities at abandoned mine drainage treatment systems
- Assist in data collection and analysis of dataloggers within the Indian Creek and Youghiogheny River watersheds
- Participate in outreach and educational activities throughout the Youghiogheny River watershed, including the development of educational programs and attending community events and festivals
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or course work in environmental science, field ecology, biology, environmental disturbances, or related topics
- Field experience, including physical, chemical, and biological water quality monitoring
- Ability to work daily out of our Melcroft, PA office
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and independent worker
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel when required
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a willingness to develop additional skills as needed.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience and depends on available funding. College credit may be available upon request.
